Tips for Mindful Eating

When you eat without paying attention, you not only eat more than you normally would, you also eat things you don’t even realize you’re eating – which is of course counter-productive for your goals. In addition, mindfulness is required in order to efficiently absorb all of the nutrients from your food.

If you struggle with getting yourself to slow down and pay attention when eating, here are a few tricks that might help. Play with them and see:

  • Eat with the opposite hand for a week
  • Eat with chopsticks
  • Put your fork down between bites
  • Take your first bite with your eyes closed
  • Take 5 deep breaths before that first bite
  • Put your food on a plate
  • Sit at a table
